The Royal Kent C of E School

Building firm foundations together

  1. Admissions
  2. Admissions - Royal Kent Primary School

Admissions: Reception to Year 6

Admissions for Year 3 entry (for September entry)

We take two additional pupils in to our Year 3 class each September, as our capacity in Key Stage 2 is slightly higher than in Key Stage 1. There also may be vacancies created by any children who leave the school at the end of Year 2. If you are interested in applying for one of these places for your child, please join us for one of our Open Mornings, and let us know that the year group you are interested in is Year 3. Again, all admissions for Year 3 entry is handled by Surrey CC.

Admissions for Reception entry (for September entry)

If you are interested in your child joining our Reception class for the next school year, you can join us during one of our Open Mornings in the autumn term.

Please note that there is no automatic admission into the Reception class of The Royal Kent School for children attending the Nursery.  Parents will need to reapply via Surrey CC for a place in Reception when their child reaches statutory school age.

In-year admissions (at any time)

If you are looking to move a child in any other year group to our school, it is a good idea to contact our School Office; we can tell you if there is a vacancy in the year group that you are interested in. If the year group that you wish to join does not have a current space, you can join the waiting list (again, this is entirely managed by Surrey CC). You can also join us at one of our Open Mornings (click here to sign up).

Admission criteria for community and voluntary controlled schools in Surrey

The admission criteria for the majority of Surrey’s community and voluntary controlled schools, including The Royal Kent School, are set out below:

  1. Looked after and previously looked after children
  2. Exceptional social/medical need
  3. Children of permanent members of staff where the member of staff has been employed at the school for two or more years at the time at which the application for admission to the school is made; and/or the member of staff is recruited to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage
  4. Children who will have a sibling at the school or at an infant/junior school which operates shared sibling priority, at the time of the child’s admission
  5. Any other children prioritised according to the distance they live from the school.

Unless otherwise stated, distance will be used when any category is oversubscribed and will be measured by straight line from the address point of the pupil’s home to the nearest official school gate for pupils to use. Where two or more children share priority for a place, Surrey County Council will use random allocation to determine which child should be given priority.
